Girls Basketball Academy Vice-Captain Noelle Sipsma shares some insights from her wealth of experience on the court.
Q. Adversity is something everyone faces. Can you recall any times when you have experienced adversity either on the court or off it, and how you got through it?
A. There was a point in time where my performance, for a few weeks, dropped significantly. I had no idea why, but I struggled or failed to accomplish things that normally I could without a second thought. This made it hard for me to stay motivated every time I had to play. To overcome this, I kept persisting even though it was hard. Not only did things go back to normal, but my skills were better than before.
Q. What lessons did you learn from that experience?
A. Although it seems cliché, I learnt not to give up when things were the roughest. It was hard to, but the sense of achievement and my new ability to persist unconditionally was worthwhile.
Q. Each of us has the capability to leave an imprint on the Academy and the School Community. Are there any values or principles you want to model to your teammates and the younger grades to leave a lasting impact?
A. I want to model an athlete who is humble and kind, but is still able to get the job done whilst showing hustle and heart on the court.
Thank you for sharing Noelle! All the best this season.
