Last week, Mueller sent Primary & Secondary teams to the Reader’s Cup for the first time. The event turns what is usually a solo endeavour (in reading) into a team effort as students were tasked with reading 5 books during the term in order to answer questions about them as a group at the competition. Students formed book clubs to discuss the novels each week, strategise, design practice questions to quiz each other on and work to understand the novels deeply. At the competition, the team were given 30 seconds to answer questions about various aspects of the books as a team.
The Primary team put in a fantastic effort to finish 16th out of 49 teams. Well done to Emelia Gumpert, Nate Stanley, Elijah McKenzie and Jayden Wang! The team also got to meet local author Peter Carnavas, who was the quiz master at the event and was excited to get a photo and have their books signed.
One of our Year 7 teams came 6th and was awarded free books as their prize. The other Secondary team came in with a solid 11th out of 21 teams. Good work Matthew Geddes, Jeevan Joy, Betsy King, Leo Kusic, Gabriella Leong, Ewan McRae, Benji Osborn, Thomas Ratcliffe, Asher Tibben, and Evie Yarrow!
