The Year 10 Essential Science and Year 11/12 Science in Practice class have been writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) for safely using laboratory equipment. The students can be seen here observing Mr.Culwick, using the Liebig tube set up to perform a distillation. This provided the students with a practical demonstration and an exemplar SOP to work from. Each student having submitted their SOP and Risk Assessment for their chosen equipment, performed an experiment as part of their assessment.
This is truly “Science in Practice”, hopefully giving memorable lessons and ‘Life Skills’ for the future.
