Welcome to the second week of Term 4! How did we get this far so soon? With just a few short weeks to go, Term 4 feels like a sprint to the finish line.

I’m sure every family, and every staff member, could attest to the incredible momentum we experience here on campus. We are truly blessed to be part of our students’ lives and God’s work here at Mueller!

One of the most amazing things about working with young children – especially Preps – is their sense of time. While I’m bouncing around campus attending meetings and all the business of the day, someone in Prep has spotted a ladybird. I’m busily answering emails and organising the next amazing event, a little person has just noticed their first wobbly tooth!

Have you ever noticed how young children are so often ‘in the moment’? There’s quite a bit of research telling us that one of the strategies to combat anxiety and ‘busy-itis’ is to be mindful, ‘in the moment’. Preppies are masters of this! While we’re hustling through our day, ticking off things on our to-do list, Preppies are noticing the wonders and mysteries of life. Our instinct can be to hurry them, dismiss their latest findings (usually nature), not value the moment of mindfulness they offer, but it is a beautiful gift they present in our hectic day.

As we all work hard to accomplish the things required of us as parents, grandparents, teachers and staff, keep an eye out for those moments offered to you by the little people in your world. The loose tooth, the smelly sticker, the ladybird, the rainbow. Lean into the wonder of life that’s happening all around us, but so often goes unnoticed. I’m not sure if it’s because young children are just closer to the ground, or if it’s because they still carry the incredible sense of wonder that announces how beautiful life is, but next time one of them points out a feather to you, take 20 seconds to pause and be ‘in the moment’. See the beauty. Take a moment to ‘wonder’. Take a deep breath, see the beauty and remember what a privilege this life is when it’s done with children.
