Our world is a remarkable place, brimming with diverse cultures, traditions, and communities. Multicultural Day in the Primary School provides an opportunity for us to recognise and celebrate this rich diversity. It was heartwarming to see so many students on Monday proudly wearing attire that represented significant countries to them. God created our incredible world, filled with a variety of foods, colours, landscapes, and animals, and He loves everyone in it, inviting us all to be part of His family.
Families are our first connection to everything we need to thrive. They are where we’ll first feel accepted or rejected. They’re the people who are supposed to celebrate us on our best days and give us shoulders to cry on during difficult days. At Mueller, we are family…
Family conveys a sense of belonging. To be in the family of God means to be accepted for who we are: loved, cherished, celebrated, and fully forgiven. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” 2 Corinthians 5:17. We all have different histories and backgrounds when it comes to the families we were born or raised in. But we’re all invited into the only perfect family ever to exist, God’s family.
As with all invitations, God gives each of us a choice whether to accept it or reject it. But we’re all invited into it. Billy Graham is quoted as saying, “Amazing things can happen when the family of God bands together.” We’ve been shown grace and mercy by Jesus Christ, and in Him we can allow His grace and mercy to flow out of us to the people God has placed in our lives.
What if we chose to treat people like they belong to God’s family even before they believe they’re in it? As followers of Jesus, let’s be known for treating everyone like family—because, ultimately, we’re all invited into God’s family.
