If you’ve walked by the Treasure Island playground recently, you will have noticed the towering sunflowers in the garden beds behind it. These are the work of the Primary Garden Club who have been meeting on Wednesday morning teas for much of the year. Mrs Alder, a keen gardener, started at Mueller this year and brought her passion with her. She gathers the students each week to learn and experience planting, watering, pruning, and harvesting.

Last term the group planted sunflower seeds and their impressive crop now boasts flowers bigger than their heads! They are beginning to collect the sunflower heads to save the seeds to plant again next year. The club have also experimented with a veggie patch growing capsicum, beans, parsley, coriander, carrots, tomatoes and more, with the tuckshop making use of their harvests.
