Last week the Primary Student Leaders of Year 6 participated in the annual GRIP Leadership training conference (G.R.I.P. represents the values the organising group: Generosity, Responsibility, Integrity, and People). Sessions were held at the Sleeman Sports Complex where the experience was attended by about 40 primary schools from the Brisbane region.

Students were actively involved in training on some universal principles of being a leader and how to practically serve and make a positive difference in their school and in the lives of others around them.

Some memorable moments included:

  • learning that leaders need be an ‘others first’ person
  • realising who they as a leader can positively impact
  • how to get the support of adult leaders/teachers for new initiatives PLUS
  • the really fun and loud games throughout the day.

The day has helped to instil in students a view of themselves as having a role in serving as a primary leader at Mueller, regardless of their position or title.
