Last Friday, nine Mueller Aviation (MA) young women attended the International Women in Aviation Day held at the Brisbane Airport Convention Center. The Mueller girls ranged from Year 9 up to Year 12, and all girls agreed that it was well worth their time to attend.

Around 160 professional females were in attendance, with girls from 3 different high schools. Attendees listened to speakers whose topics ranged from workplace discrimination to opportunities in the Aerospace sphere. Our girls participated in ‘speed networking’ where they had to deliver their ‘pitch’ to professional aerospace personnel; MA staff observed our students talking to RAAF Officers, Boeing Officials, Navy representatives, maintenance engineers, and many more during this activity. After this was over and lunch was had, our girls had their LinkedIn headshots done by a professional photographer, and then sat in on a workshop hosted by a Recruitment company who gave the girls pointers on what to include in a CV, how to secure an interview, and how to negotiate some of the questions that recruiters will throw at them.

Finally, the girls boarded a bus and headed ‘Airside’, which is on the other side of the airport barbed wire. We drove along the flight line past all the baggage carts , and Boeing, Airbus, and Embraer aircraft being refuelled and taking on or letting off passengers. It was a long day, and everyone was well and truly tired by the end.

We are really proud of our young ladies and wish them all the best in their future careers.
