Primary students had a nice warm day to hit the pool in this year’s swimming carnival last week. They started the day kitted out in their colourful costumes and face paint representing their sporting houses – all of which gradually disappeared in water and sweat over the course of the event.

The 50m events brought out fierce competition and plenty of cheering from the poolside. Competitors in the multi-class division showed spectacular tenacity as they tackled the length of the pool. Classes had the opportunity to head to the splash area and game zone during their downtime, with students revelling in the giant bucket dump and playtime with friends.

The 25m events were approached with excitement and a ‘have-a-go’ attitude, bringing out many students to race. If there were two things that characterised this year’s event, it would be this notable willingness to participate, and the waves of peer encouragement that permeated the event, from fist pumps as they waited in the marshalling area, to homemade signs being waved from the sidelines, and wild high fives at the finishing wall.
