Last week I enjoyed a smoked brisket lunch from Hudsons. The meal was even more enjoyable because I was aware that a Year 12 student, who is undertaking a traineeship, cooked the brisket. I am incredibly thankful that his contribution to Mueller is his ability to cook an amazing brisket! And every Friday there is a steady stream of elderly people from the retirement village coming for their roast pork lunch.

Hudsons at Mueller café is more than a café. It is a family of students, under the guidance of the chefs, who make a daily contribution to the Mueller community.

Last week’s musical was another example of how the entire community came together to produce an amazing show. I am sure there are more, but here is an idea of the breadth of contribution from the Mueller community;

Staff manning the ticket booth
Past students acting as ushers
A CBD builder built Chitty
A parent painted Chitty
Ladies from Mueller Community Church helped with the costumes
Staff did the makeup
Students sold snacks to raise funds for charity
And many, many more…

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was more than a musical. It was an opportunity for many in the community to make a contribution so that we could all enjoy a night out.

But why bother? School is compulsory, but no one says it has to be painful. At Mueller, we want to create a community which people feel part of, and genuinely want to contribute to, because they belong.

The ultimate example of service is God’s son Jesus. Staff at Mueller have a deep faith in Christ. Our contribution to the community is because Christ first served us through his sacrifice, and now we are his servants to the community.
