Finishing school is a memorable experience! The current Year Twelves are a special group who started as Prep students in 2007, the very first Prep students ever in Queensland. They are also the last cohort in Queensland under the OP system. We have celebrated their academic achievements, their contribution to the school along with their musical, sporting, film-making and artistic abilities. They are a talented group of people. Here they are now, ready to leave school all together and take on the next challenge that life has before them.

There will be a range of emotions from parents and students as they wear their uniform for the last time, walk across the stage for graduation and get dressed up for the formal. The whole high school gets wrapped up in the excitement of this week, culminating in the final chapel where the Year Twelves really let their hair down! Finishing school is a big juncture in the lives of young people and is often related to the feeling of ‘freedom!’ No doubt there is much relief in being freed from the requirements of wearing uniforms, maintaining a conservative hair style and having your whole week timetabled. Just like there is freedom for the parents in the relief from school fees!

Whilst there is freedom, we know too that they leave school with memories they have acquired, friendships they have developed and lessons they have learned remaining with them. The Bible has many promises we can hold onto in times of transition in our life. Whilst some promises are specific to people and situations, the character of God rings true today. In Deuteronomy 31, Joshua takes over from Moses as leader of the Israelites. God says to Joshua, “So be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid and do not panic before them. For the Lord your God will personally go ahead of you. He will neither fail you nor abandon you.” Whilst these words are specific to Joshua, we can trust the God will never fail nor abandon us as we press forward on the adventures he has for us.

Congratulations Year 12 students! It has been a wonderful journey and we wish you God’s richest blessings as you pursue the next step in your journey.
