This week we congratulate and farewell the class of 2020. Thirteen years of schooling at Mueller College come to an end for one hundred and thirty-three graduands during a number of farewell and celebration events. And it is a big finish for everyone involved in their graduation after a very challenging and different year!
The final week for Year Twelve’s evokes mixed feelings of excitement and sadness, as the memories of shared experiences spanning many years is tampered with the realisation that they are about to leave the safe and secure environment that is the Mueller bubble!
Interestingly enough, a change of environment with its routines and expectations can bring with it a fresh change of perspective. A survey of recent graduates revealed some interesting changes of perspective they experienced soon after leaving school. Some of these included;
- Stretch your Brain. Like muscles, if it is not being exercised, it will not increase capacity.
- Don’t sweat your grades too much. Your identity and value are not based on your school performances.
- Learn to ask for Help. The bubble of support all but disappears when you leave school.
- Find your own De-stress routine – Life is and will be hard. Have things in your life that are fun and provide rest.
- Do something, volunteer. Maintaining an outward and selfless focus through life is important for good wellbeing.
- Popularity counts for little. Popularity is quickly overlooked for competence and character.
- Have a Plan B. Failing is necessary for experiencing future success. Plan B is the vehicle that moves you on from the failure.
Mueller’s mission statement reads:
“Mueller College aims to prepare students for life in the world and eternity…..”
A good ATAR score or QCE, gaining competencies and receiving a pass all serve as preparation for gaining career and work opportunities. Displaying high standards in appearance, and presentation, having a high work ethic; being punctual, developing healthy habits, and sticking to processes and procedures all aid in gaining and keeping employment, and starting and maintaining relationships. However, Mueller College acknowledges that ‘life in eternity’ has far greater significance than all those things. If all students graduate from Mueller knowing the good news of the gospel, which is the free gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, then our mission statement has been achieved.
Congratulations to the graduating class of 2020. We are super proud of all you have achieved this year, the way you have gone about it through the chaos and change, and the contribution you have made to Mueller College during your time here. We wish you all the very best as you begin the next chapter of your lives.
