In recent communication, I have made reference a couple of times to the words ‘this is not our DNA’. The current Covid season of changes have forced us to work in a way which is not part of the Mueller DNA. Online learning, communication through forums and emails, parents off campus, no assemblies or Chapels are all some changes which go against who we are as a school.

Plagiarised directly from the internet DNA or deoxyribonucleic acid, “is a long molecule that contains our unique genetic code. Like a recipe book it holds the instructions for making all the proteins in our bodies.”

It is not in our DNA to teach through a screen. Mueller staff miss your children, and we have heard that students have also missed their teachers. The interaction with staff is foundational to being able to value each and every student.

It is not in our DNA to not have parents on campus. The incidental conversations with teachers at the beginning and end of the day are an important part of community. Parents meeting in A Quad and grabbing a coffee in Hudsons has now become something of a pastime.

It is amazing the change that Covid has brought upon us all. We are hopeful however that as this time passes, we can get back to a Mueller where community is normal and being together is not illegal.
