Last week, we had the privilege of gathering for the annual Mueller Presentation Night. We saw about 300 students receive awards across a range of fields along with numerous student performances and speeches. They even provided the refreshments after the program! It is a night for celebrating the students for their contribution, leadership, and achievement. Expertly led by the 2021 school captains Hannah Kraus and Nicholas Tomsett, I am always blown away by the calibre of Mueller College students.

School awards ceremonies are not everyone’s favourite thing however I do enjoy seeing the students being rewarded for their efforts. It is a snapshot of the school community and all its component parts, even the videos of the Fete, You Belong Week and ANZAC Day add to this feeling. This year we were blessed to have 7 past students return to be involved in the ceremony, 6 past school captains, and the 2020 Mueller Dux – Leroy Christian. One of the strengths of Mueller is the tremendous people who make up the student body and these alumni are fine examples of this.

Whilst it is important to celebrate the notable achievements of our students when I reflect on an evening such as this, I am drawn to a passage in scripture that speaks of everyone doing their part, including the many excellent students who did not feature on Presentation evening. God has given us all unique talents and abilities, some of which shine more readily in a school environment than others, and encourages us to use them well and with confidence. In Romans 12: 6 – 8 it says:

In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well …. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging …. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly”

There are many students whose actions and efforts reflect gifts, talents and perseverance which is not seen on an awards night. However, the experience we enjoy at Mueller College is made richer for their presence and abilities.

Congratulations to those who won awards last week and thank you to those who turn up and do their best each school day.
