I love watching the Aussies at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. The sheer exhilaration and joy for those who win a gold medal make all the sacrifices seem worthwhile.
Just think: all the early mornings, a relentless schedule of training and nutrition, a limited social life, deferring a career – these athletes make every sacrifice to compete. But it’s worth it, especially for those who win gold.
And it made me think: we all make sacrifices for the things that we value. As all parents know, we gladly make every sacrifice to do what we think is best for our children. Mueller College itself was founded on the basis of faith, prayer and sacrifice. Our founders made huge sacrifices in time, energy and finances. Why? Because they valued the provision of a first-rate Christian education to our community.
In the same way, God has made the ultimate sacrifice through Jesus to redeem all those who trust in him.
Is it possible that we are that valuable to the God of the universe?
Listen to Romans 5:8, 10.
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. … For if, while we were God’s enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!”
Now, that’s a sacrifice we can value.
It’s our fervent hope that our students will value all the sacrifices you make to give them the best start in life.
